The practice behind the mission.

Therapy Nook: The Manifestation of Our Founder’s Vision

Sergena Laine, LCSW, is the proud daughter of Haitian immigrants and brings a deep understanding of the complexities that shape individual identities. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Theology from Fairfield University and began her career working with seniors experiencing severe behavioral challenges and intellectual impairments. This early experience ignited her passion for helping people navigate life's challenges.

That passion became a purpose. Therapy Nook LLC was founded in 2021 with a specific and intentional mission: to build a therapy practice for her community, by her community. Sergena understands firsthand what it means to carry the weight of a complex cultural identity and to need a therapist who doesn't require you to explain yourself before the real work can begin. Every clinical and business decision at Therapy Nook flows from that foundation.

Sergena went on to earn her Master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University, where she honed her clinical skills through a hospital internship that led to full-time employment. At Norwalk Hospital, she provided compassionate care to hundreds of patients and their families in advanced stages of illness, offering both practical resources and emotional support during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Currently pursuing a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration, Sergena continues to expand her impact as a consultant for hospitals nationwide. She has collaborated with prominent healthcare systems, including Kaiser Permanente, Yale, and MedStar Health. These experiences have deepened her appreciation for cultural diversity across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Pacific-West regions, while strengthening her commitment to individualized care.

In her private practice, Sergena primarily focuses on helping clients process complex and chronic trauma through various psychotherapeutic modalities. She emphasizes the dignity and worth of every person, fostering genuine therapeutic relationships rooted in empathy and respect. Sergena believes in her clients’ ability to create meaningful change and strives to connect them with resources that promote health, safety, well-being, and independence.

Passionate about mentorship, Sergena is committed to supporting the next generation of social workers. As a clinical supervisor, she offers a wealth of experience and guidance to help supervisees sharpen their skills, grow in confidence, and achieve their licensure goals. As a peer, she believes that social workers thrive best when they support and uplift one another, especially in the rapidly changing political, social, and economic climate of today.

Today, Therapy Nook LLC has grown beyond individual therapy into a multi-track group practice. The adult services track serves adults 18 and older through culturally affirming psychotherapy, clinical evaluations, and professional trainings. The children and family services track — led by a licensed Director of Children and Family Services — serves Black children and families through Connecticut Medicaid, ensuring that income is never a barrier to affirming care. The practice is actively credentialing with Anthem BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Optum, Medicare, and Medicaid, and is actively building a team of associate clinicians and graduate-level clinical interns who share its mission.

Outside of her rich career, you can find Sergena satiating her taste for adventure through traveling the world, serving her community, or connecting with nature at the nearest beach with a good book and the sounds of kompa, dancehall, and soca playing somewhere in her background.
